I want to hear a “snapshot” of the events in your book so far and hear what you think will happen in the next few chapters. Give a summary of the most important events in your book. Then, make a prediction or two about what you think will happen next.

I’d like to know more about the main character in your book. Tell me what he or she is like.
Then, compare and contrast you and that character. Describe how the two of you are similar and how you are different.
Finally, tell how these similarities and differences are affecting your enjoyment of the book so far.

Last week, we started our math unit on fractions. I really enjoy teaching fractions because there are a lot fun activities to do when learning about fractions. Before we go any further though, I need to know some things from you.
What do you already know about fractions?
What do you want to learn about fractions?
Do you have any ideas for how you could find more information about fractions?
Let me know what you think! I will use your suggestions to help plan the activities we will do in class!

Since there are 5 different books being read in our class, we will use this blog to let each other know what is going on in each book. Each week, you will be able to help your classmates experience your book and you will get to hear about their books!
This week, tell us about the setting of your book. Explain why the setting is important to the plot of the story. Give 2 examples/details from the story to support your answer.

Now that you have learned about the 5 main roles, give me your thoughts on literature circles. Here are some questions to get you thinking:
Do you think you will like doing literature circles? Why or why not?
What do you think will be your favorite role or roles? Why do you like these roles?
What kind of books do you hope to read during literature circles?
How do you think this will affect your reading skills?
What do you hope to learn from doing literature circles?
How can I help you understand or enjoy literature circles more?

Thanksgiving is this week. This tradition was started almost 400 years ago with a Harvest Celebration. The Wampanoag Native Americans and English colonists held this celebration as a day to give thanks for a successful harvest.
These 2 cultures had some similarities, but were also very different in many ways. After doing some research at this website, imagine you were able to attend the 1621 Harvest Celebration. Would you choose to be a Wampanoag or Pilgrim? Give at least 3 reasons for your choice, supported with examples from your reading.
